Hello...

Hi, I’m Kirsten. I am an integrative therapist and advanced trainee in Somatic Experiencing®

I offer counselling and Somatic Experiencing® to individual adults, particularly people who are recovering from trauma.

My counselling work is trauma-informed and Somatic Experiencing® is trauma based body work for the nervous system, helping to heal deep-seated trauma wounds.

My aim is to help return you to a place of safety within yourself, a state that existed before the trauma happened.

My role is to support you until you no longer need support because you feel able to trust yourself moving forward; feeling confident that although life will always have challenges, you can handle them.

Therapy with me...

Do you feel lost, distressed, isolated, constantly on edge or exhausted? Do you feel like you are the only one who doesn’t understand how to thrive in the world, but struggles through each day?
Do you find it hard to balance your emotions? To recover from set-backs? Perhaps you struggle to know what your emotions are, or only feel certain emotions such as anger, sadness or fear.

My style of working is explorative, going on a journey with you to understand yourself, with you as my guide. On this journey we will look at ways of bringing feelings of safety to your life before we work on anything deeper. You need to feel able to manage the difficult things that come out of having experienced trauma so you don’t get overwhelmed by them in therapy.

The quality of our relationship will take priority, as only when you feel safe, accepted and supported by me can you start to gain anything from our sessions.

Experience

I have supported many clients from all walks of life, experiencing a variety of problems.
I have extensive experience of working with survivors of sexual assault, rape and childhood sexual abuse.
Some of the other things I have supported clients with are other forms of childhood & developmental abuse (neglect, violence, emotional & psychological abuse), domestic violence, long-term health issues, intrusive thoughts and OCD, surgical trauma, family relationships, partner relationships, grief and loss, depression and anxiety.

If there is something that you would like support with and you are unsure if I can help - reach out and we can talk about it.

Areas of Expertise

I am passionate about helping clients to understand their trauma experiences, to understand that the way they think and behave is absolutely normal for someone with a history of trauma or following a traumatic event, and to recover from this.

Trauma is so much more than most people understand it to be - you do not have to have been in the army to get PTSD. You do not need to have been in danger to experience trauma - you only needed to believe you were in danger.

Anything that threatens our physical or emotional safety can be traumatic. Trauma can be caused by a one-off event (e.g a car crash) or an ongoing series of events (e.g. bullying).

I have one module left to complete on a 3 year Somatic Experiencing® course but as an advanced trainee I am able to practice.

If you need a specialist, I am able to offer therapy to people who are affected by Learning Disability, Neurodivergence, Personality Disorder

Running out of a room whilst clutching my baby as I escaped a spider I knew something had to change! I spoke with Kirsten and she took me through the phobia intervention, which I went along with but didn't actually think would work. After the session I was weirdly looking forward to seeing a spider to see how I would be. 2 weeks later I saw one, I didn't run away or have sweaty palms. I was able to remove it with a broom. 10 years later I don't blink when I see one. It feels like a different person to who I was before. Thanks to Kirsten I can now deal with spiders and my kids have not picked up on the irrational fear I once had. It's truly been life changing.
