Hello...
I have been working as a Psychotherapist for 18 years. I trained at the Westminster Pastoral Foundation, with my core training being Psychodynamic.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship can offer support and an opportunity to gain a clearer and deeper understanding of yourself and your situation. Through increased self awareness you can consider how to make different choices and to think about how you cope and make sense of life's difficulties.
Therapy with me...
My work is largely based on the understanding that our earliest relationships deeply influence our way of thinking, feeling and behaving. Survival strategies and ways to cope, adopted and needed in early life may now be limiting your adult life, and affecting decision making.
Sometimes it is also helpful to use cognitive behavioral approaches especially around managing the link between thoughts and feelings.
I provide a safe, calm, non judgemental space to explore and be curious about your internal world.
We can think together about what feels overwhelming or stuck.
I offer short term focussed work to think about a particular area of difficulty or longer term open ended work if it feels more appropriate.
Experience
I have worked in private practice since 2011 seeing adults.
I spent 4 years as a clinical case manager for an EAP (Employee Assistance Provider) working to assist employees who were struggling with a wide range of issues, impacting their working and personal life.
I have worked at two London Universities as a student counsellor, working with young adults studying at postgraduate level.
Areas of Expertise
Through my work as a University Counsellor I came to know more fully the impact of anxiety, as students prepared to sit professional exams. Working in an EAP setting with clients who were not able to work, often due to anxious feelings and escalating stress levels, also aided my understanding of how to reduce and cope with the universal experience of anxiety.
An area of special interest is the impact of change. Sometimes we long for and desire change and sometimes it arrives univited and unwanted, both can throw up unexpected responses. How we process, accept or defend against change is an important part of wellbeing. This inevitably includes endings, not just bereavements but divorce, health changes, job moves, children leaving home, and moving through inescapable life stages.
