Hello...
I’m Romy, a psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer based in Manchester with over 20 years’ experience. I work relationally, drawing on Transactional Analysis and Brainspotting, a body-based approach that can reach what words alone sometimes can’t.
My practice is trauma-informed and neuro-affirming. I have a particular interest in supporting autistic, ADHD and otherwise neurodivergent people, including those just beginning to make sense of years of masking or feeling different. You won’t be asked to fit a mould here; we’ll go at a pace that feels safe.
I also train and supervise therapists across the UK and internationally, and lead a specialist diploma in neurodiversity-informed practice, which keeps me curious and current.
What I offer is a warm, honest space where all of you is welcome: the parts that cope, the parts that struggle, and the parts still finding their voice.
Therapy with me...
I work collaboratively, which means we shape our sessions together around what you need rather than around a fixed model. There’s no right way to do therapy, and no right way to be in the session.
I’m happy to adapt how we meet. That might mean camera off, using the chat, taking pauses to process, stimming freely, or moving around during the session. Sensory needs and energy levels matter, and we’ll pay attention to both.
My approach draws on Transactional Analysis, which offers clear, practical ways to understand patterns in how we relate to ourselves and others, and Brainspotting, which works gently with the body and nervous system.
I don’t see neurodivergence as something to fix. Instead, we might explore the cost of masking, unpick old messages about who you were supposed to be, and make room for a more authentic, sustainable way of living.
You set the pace, and you can always tell me what isn’t working.
Experience
I’ve worked in the helping professions for 25 years. I began in 2001 in pastoral care with children and young people, then moved to Childline / NSPCC, where I supervised counsellors. Since then I’ve worked in private practice with adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, burnout, relational difficulties and the long-term effects of masking.
I’m trained in Transactional Analysis. I’m also a Brainspotting consultant, which means I support other therapists in using this approach as well as offering it to clients. I’m a member of the BACP.
Alongside my therapy practice, I’m a clinical supervisor and trainer, working across the UK, Ireland and internationally.
I’ve published papers and a book chapter on relational and neuro-affirming practice, and co-developed the Masking-Authenticity Triangle, a framework for understanding masking, published in The Transactional Analyst in 2025.
Areas of Expertise
My work centres on neurodivergent experience, particularly autism and ADHD. I’m especially interested in masking: what it protects, what it costs, and how we can gently make space for a more authentic self. This often includes people navigating late identification, or making sense of their life story through a new lens.
I also have a strong interest in autistic burnout and trauma, including the cumulative impact of growing up in a world that wasn’t designed for you. Brainspotting can be especially helpful here, as it works with the nervous system rather than relying on talking alone.
I’m drawn to times of transition and in-between places, where an old way of being no longer fits and a new one hasn’t yet formed.
I’m also interested in where neurodivergence meets other parts of identity, including queer and gender-diverse experience, and in how wider social systems shape the way we see ourselves.
If you need a specialist, I am able to offer therapy to people who are affected by Learning Disability, Neurodivergence
