Hello...
Thanks for visiting my profile! I'm Suzy, a counselling psychologist (HCPC-registered) specialising in therapy underpinned by feminist values. I'm also a queer-affirmative and disability-aware therapist.
My approach to therapy is flexible and collaborative. I always strive to create a supportive space where you can openly address your concerns without fear of judgment. Some of the most common concerns that I support people with are low mood, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, coping with chronic illness, grief, self-esteem, and identity exploration.
Therapy with me...
I currently work with adult clients, both in-person and online, through my private practice Lavender Psychology. Sessions are typically offered on a weekly or fortnightly basis. The normal session length is 50 minutes.
I am trained in and draw from multiple approaches to therapy. At the beginning of working together, we'll go through your needs and preferences for therapy to select an approach that suits you. We'll also check in throughout the therapy and make changes if your needs or preferences change.
These approaches include: Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Applied psychology, Cognitive behavioural therapies (CBT), Cognitive therapy, Compassion-focused therapy (CFT), Creative therapies, Emotion-focused therapy (EFT), Existential therapy, Humanistic therapies, Integrative counselling, Motivational interviewing, Person-centred therapy (PCT), Solution-focused therapy, Strength-based therapy, and Trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT). I draw from DBT and Schema theory.

Experience
Drawing from my NHS and charity experience, I frequently work with people who have been affected by trauma, abuse, or neglect, as well as people who have faced marginalisation, discrimination, and oppression based on aspects of their identity (e.g. race, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, education, or faith/religion).
Education and Training:
Doctor of Psychology in Counselling Psychology - Glasgow Caledonian University
Master of Science in Applied Psychology - Robert Gordon University
Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Skills and Practice - Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences
Clinical Experience:
My experience in counselling/psychotherapy includes working with the NHS, third sector mental health charities, and a primary school. I also regularly pursue CPD to improve my skills and practise.
