Hello...

I am an Accredited BACP Psychotherapist and feel privileged to work alongside clients as we navigates life's challenges. In addition to my private practice i work in educational settings both 1:1 and delivering workshops, I also volunteer with Cruse Bereavement. Through these various settings I have been fortunate to experience the very real benefits therapy can have and it has given me an understanding of the broad mental health issues we may face at different stages of life. My earlier career connected me to people from different cultures and backgrounds and helped me to understand the challenges of the corporate world, especially how our roles can prohibit our authentic self being seen, for fear of judgment or rejection. However, we are human and we are not perfect, I am here to help you accept and understand yourself better and hopefully ease any burden you are feeling. I know it takes bravery to begin therapy and my aim is to always be warm, non-judgemental and make you feel safe.

Therapy with me...

My integrative approach is a combination of humanistic, psychodynamic and cognitive therapies, which can be tailored to your individual needs. However, I believe it is the relationship which has the most healing potential. For therapy to be successful you need to feel secure enough to explore any issues which may arise, so together we can create a therapeutic relationship which enables you to feel accepted, understood and importantly not alone in what you are going through. Through this relationship I hope to share some of the heaviness you are feeling and have a sense of what it really means to be you. We may explore new coping skills, be curious about the past to see how it may still be impacting you, or look at what changes you could make currently. Whatever we do, we will work collaboratively to reflect on the difficulties and emotions you may be experiencing in a way that leads to fresh perspectives, a new understanding of yourself, and what you need to move forward.

Experience

I have a Masters Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy in addition to other specialist training, including bereavement, trauma, neurodiversity. I have worked in various clinical settings with both adults and children, which has given me a rounded view of how we relate to others at any given age and how these relationships shape us for the future. Working with many neurodivergent young people in both schools and mental health settings has ameliorated my understanding of the extra challenges ADHD and Autism can bring in adulthood. I have also been a volunteer with Cruse Bereavement for many years, supporting people of all ages and from all walks of life. This work highlighted the many other forms of loss we encounter in our lives, such as identity, direction, role, relationships and perhaps the life you thought you may have. Loss is a natural part of life yet the challenges it can bring often goes unsupported, consequently this has become a prominent area of my work.

Areas of Expertise

I have specialist training in all areas of bereavement and loss, including baby loss and miscarriage. Losing someone you love is a painful experience which can trigger many unexpected thoughts and emotions and i have been privileged to hear so many unique stories and be alongside people in their raw grief to help them navigate this testing time.
I have special interest in how our childhoods and family dynamics influence our adult relationships and life choices, often negatively. We develop attachment styles and learn defences to cope with difficulties at the time, which can impact our later lives. Understanding why these defences developed and whether they are still needed can help us to break unhelpful patterns of relating and improve relationships going forward.
I also work with trauma carried over from childhood, such as neglect, abuse, parentification and codependency. My practice is GSRD and Neurodivergent affirmative and I am currently seeing more adult diagnosed ADHD clients.

If you need a specialist, I am able to offer therapy to people who are affected by Learning Disability, Neurodivergence
